Uruguayan Parliament with votes for government proposals

Montevideo, Jun 18 (Prensa Latina) A marathon day culminated in the early hours of this morning with the approval in the Uruguayan Chamber of Deputies of the Accountability 2024 bill.

It was about the last year of the administration of President Luis Lacalle Pou and opened the way for projects of the current government subject to the budgetary situation.

The initiative enters today the Senate after obtaining 96 out of 99 votes in the lower house, where the Frente Amplio (FA) does not have a majority.

Whites, Colorados and independents did not vote for some articles that the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) presented in the proposal.

However, the Frente Amplio bench obtained the support of the deputies of Cabildo Abierto, which is part of the CR.

These articles refer to authorizations to the Ministry of Public Health to pay for high priced medicines after lawsuits.

It includes an increase of resources for the State Health Services Administration, and 144 million dollars to honor an agreement with the private consortium that built the Central Railroad.
