A statement published on the Foreign Ministry’s website urgently calls for an immediate cessation of airstrikes and all military action that endangers the civilian population.

Chile reaffirms its commitment to diplomacy based on unrestricted respect for international law, including the United Nations Charter, and the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue and multilateralism, the statement states.

Without a prior declaration of war, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government launched an attack on Iran a week ago, leading to the murder of scientists, military personnel, and civilians. Iran responded to those attacks.

The strikes left hundreds dead and more than 1,000 wounded in Tehran. Meanwhile, in Israel, 24 people have been killed and nearly 800 were injured.

The Chilean government has decided to evacuate its diplomatic personnel from Tehran and temporarily close its embassy due to the current insecurity situation.
