Heat wave peaks in western France

Paris, Jun 21 (Prensa Latina) The agency Météo France today maintained the orange alert, the second highest in the country, for 16 departments hit by a heat wave that will reach its peak this Saturday close to 40 degrees Celsius.

The vast majority of the territories under surveillance for an unusual phenomenon, increasingly frequent due to climate change, are located in the western half, except for the southeastern Isère and Rhône.

From Brittany to Occitania thermometers will range between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius, with the certainty that in some communes they will mark 39 or 40, as it happened yesterday in Vailhan (39.3) and Grospierres (38.8).

Since Thursday, when the 50th canicular episode recorded on French soil since 1947 began, the authorities insist on their calls to hydrate and avoid heavy physical exercise, as well as to keep a close eye on the most vulnerable, particularly the elderly. In France, every heat wave generates concern and brings to mind the one experienced in 2003, to which 15,000 deaths were attributed. The current event is due to the entry of a mass of warm air from Spain, with temperatures expected to drop somewhat tomorrow with the arrival of the oceanic air.
