The meeting, coinciding with the 94th anniversary of the founding of this party in 1931, rejected the moves against Caracas to bring the Venezuelan people to their knees through sanctions and blockades until President Nicolas Maduro “submits to Washington’s policies.”
The Costa Rican political party and its Congress also supported the Nicaraguan government, led by the Sandinista National Liberation Front, and its promotion of revolutionary strategies in defense of national sovereignty, social justice, and economic independence.
Another Congress document recognizes the role of neighboring Honduras in the government of President Xiomara Castro Sarmiento, who represented a significant change in that country’s politics and marked the beginning of a popular-minded administration.
Regarding Cuba, the 19th Congress of the Popular Vanguard Party remembered that “the peoples of Latin America have been, are, and will continue to make every effort and struggle in solidarity and support of our sister republic and its glorious revolutionary process.”
“Since 1895, the interventionist and imperialist policy against Cuba has been present,” and, after the triumphant January 1, 1959, “the economic, commercial, and financial blockade began on a large scale against the Caribbean country,” it was stressed in the event where the Costa Rican organization was recognized by diplomats and other envoys from friendly nations invited to the Congress, such as those from Honduras, China, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Cuba.
