Gomez Ochoa, National Hero of the Dominican Republic and only survival of the expeditions of the 14th and 20th of June 1959, patriotic action to free this country from Trujillo dictatorship, shared with Mejia and members of the leading board of this leftwind Party.

The expedition, militarily defeated, became a moral victory that led future events flowed to let the Caribbean nation get rid of dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo.

Mejia gave a welcoming lunch to Gomez Ochoa’s second homeland and his comrades, in which the Cuban and Dominican flags waved as a sign of historical brotherhood and solidarity between both peoples.

This way the political leader ratified Dominicans’ gratitude to Comandante Gomez Ochoa for his effort and uninterested sacrifice by taking part in the fight for liberty, independence and sovereignty of the Dominican Republic.

Miguel Mejia meant the high significance of this meeting for all what it represents and the reaffirmation of Dominicans’ gratefulness to this so beloved friend, National Hero, who, 96 years old, keeps his ideas and ideological strength forged like steel.

Last week the country’s Chamber of Deputies granted Gomez Ochoa recognitions to honor his participation in the Dominican fight for freedom, whose heroic feat has been deeply praised, at the time that he also attended meetings with Cubans residing over Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Santo Domingo (June 13 al 15) with the participation of delegations from 13 countries.
