“Oil prices are set globally. If the Strait of Hormuz is closed, the United States will not be out of danger. No one is immune from a global oil crisis: prices at the pump will skyrocket,” Dmitriev warned on his personal X account.
In the early hours of June 22, the United States launched a massive attack with bunker-busting bombs and cruise missiles on Iranian nuclear program facilities in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan, to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Iran has always insisted on the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, accused the United States of violating international law, and promised retaliation on various fronts, including against U.S. interests in the region.
Esmaeil Kousari, a member of the Iranian parliament’s National Security Commission, said that lawmakers concluded that the strait should be closed, although the decision rests with the Supreme National Security Council.
The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, connects the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean and is a crucial shipping route, through which approximately 30 percent of the world’s seaborne oil and nearly 20 percent of international liquefied natural gas trade are shipped.
