This he said at the end of a meeting between the leadership of the labor federation and President Yamandú Orsi, in which the Secretary of the Presidency, Alejandro Sánchez, and the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Juan Castillo, participated.
Abdala said in a press conference that Orsi listened to the “priorities” of the Central Union.
In particular the “need for a social talk towards a national development strategy” so that “our people can live with dignity from work”.
He pointed out that the Executive replied that the PIT-CNT will be summoned by the Planning and Budget Office to agree on the methodology of the dialogue.
The PIT-CNT delegation proposed to Orsi to study the possibility of implementing “a tax on the richest one percent of the Uruguayan society”.
According to Abdala, such a tax “could contribute greatly to reducing child poverty” without affecting investment.
