Cuban National Ballet back to Vietnam

Hanoi, June 26 (Prensa Latina) Barely six months after its previous successful performance, Cuban National Ballet company will once again take to the stage of Ho Guom Opera House, where it will present a varied program.

The company, led by principal dancer and company director Viengsay Valdes, will open its performance with Rose Adage from Sleeping Beauty, followed by Lucile, and then The Death of a Swan, a contemporary male version by Michel Descombey, who directed this piece at Paris Opera.

Imago, End of Time, The Nutcracker, and the Adagio from Swan Lake – Act II pas de deux are some of the other pieces the audience will be able to enjoy here before Majisimo, one of the Cuban National Ballet’s signature works, concludes this first performance.

Cuban National Ballet will perform again on the same stage next Sunday 29th, closing out a tour that began in Zhengzhou, China, in mid-May and included 18 performances of Swan Lake, in Alicia Alonso’s renowned version of Petipa and Ivanov’s original.

Upon her return to this Indochinese nation at the end of last November, Valdes described it as “an immense pleasure to return to these latitudes, because Vietnam is one of those countries that has always been very close to Cuba.”

It was historic that on that occasion, the founder of the Cuban National Ballet, prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, and the rest of the delegation were able to personally meet the hero of Vietnamese independence, President Ho Chi Minh, she said.

Valdes emphasized that the memorable visit was also an expression of all the support that the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, always provided to the just cause of the Vietnamese people, both personally and through the Moncada heroine Melba Hernandez.
