The approximately 5,000 students of Barthelemy Boganda Secondary School were in the middle of their final exams when an electrical transformer burst while maintenance work was being carried out on the campus, points to the official statement issued this morning.
The mix of confusion and fear caused the students to leave their seats and launch into a crazy and tumultuous race towards the exit gates, according to the official report.
The incident also left 260 wounded, dozens of them in serious condition, but without danger to life, added the statement issued by the Health Ministry.
