Granma and Juventud Rebelde, two of the most important newspapers on the island, informed that Rubio is using the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) “as part of his immoral campaign against the medical cooperation that Cuba offers.”
The release explains, “In an unprecedented move, he has demanded all member states of the Organization of American States (OAS) to respond to a detailed questionnaire concerning cooperation agreements with Cuba in the field of health.”
The statement noted that this action is considered by many nations “an unprecedented request and violates the States’ sovereignty.”
The text stated, “Cuba reiterates that it does not and will not recognize any moral or legal authority of the OAS nor any of its officials and subsidiary or autonomous entities.”
It also affirmed that to help achieve its goal, the United States resorted to pressure and blackmail and imposed “mercenary on the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights of the OAS.”
For months, Rubio unleashed an operation to try to transform a prominent member of his payroll list, a supporter of the blockade and aggression against Cuba, into an impartial human rights expert, the document asserted.
It noted, “Pressure and threats, which included the blackmailing that the United States would cut funding cooperation programs in the hemisphere, ultimately resulted in the election of well-known mercenary Rosa Maria Paya Acevedo as an IACHR Commissioner.”
It clarified that despite efforts to whitewash Paya’s record, “they could not erase the shameful past of the new Commissioner, who has supported coups d’etat, prolonged falsehoods, and promoted military interventions and economic warfare policies.”
The text stated that situations like this “need a profound transformation of hemispheric relations.”
