Orsi, who described the conclave as an “act of optimism,” thanked Spain for organizing the forum “at a time of great confusion, instability, in a world filled with war and the rise of arms.”
The Uruguayan president added that this “climate of global dispersion” worsens the situation of the most vulnerable, especially with regard to structural problems such as poverty, hunger, forced displacement, and increasing pollution.
Therefore, he emphasized, the 2030 Agenda remains relevant.
“If there are two-thirds of the agenda that we couldn’t accomplish, there is a third that we did, and behind them are people who managed to escape the situation they were in, but there are two-thirds that await us,” he argued.
The conference, which runs until July 3, addresses development financing with an emphasis on reforming the international financial architecture and addressing the challenges of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the international community.
