According to the Universidad del Desarrollo poll, Jara, of the Communist Party, has 26 percent of voting intentions, followed by Jose Antonio Kast, of the far-right Republican Party, with 23 percentage points.
Further behind are Evelyn Matthei, of the right-wing coalition Chile Vamos, with 19; Johannes Kaiser, of the Libertarians (9); and Franco Parisi of the People’s Party (7).
The results of the survey show a 100 percent increase in preference for Jara, who had 13 points in the previous survey.
The former labor minister won with more than 60 percent of the vote in Sunday’s primaries and became the standard-bearer for the left, progressive, and social democratic sectors in the November presidential elections.
Pulso Ciudadano poll, which included 3,873 people, also showed that the Unity for Chile pact candidate would be defeated in the second round by Kast or Matthei.
