During his weekly Monday night program, “Con Maduro +,” the president signed the letter on behalf of the mothers and grandmothers of the children who were split from their families by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The letter is also intended to reach at the Catholic Church in the United States and El Salvador claiming the protection of the 252 migrants kidnapped in the latter country, as well as those held in detention centers in the United States.
“I ask the Catholic Church in the United States and El Salvador for help to protect migrants,” Maduro emphasized, while announcing that the text will be sent to His Holiness through the Venezuelan Apostolic Nunciature, which raised awareness with the afflicted families present on the television program.
On another note, Maduro commented on the opening of a new detention center in Florida, where 3,000 migrants will be sent.
According to the dignitary, it is a horrific system, a prison “surrounded by swamps, crocodiles, and snakes.”
According to international media, US President Donald Trump, along with other officials, is expected to attend the inauguration of the migrant detention center.
In this regard, Maduro lashed out at the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, whose office, he said, had been hijacked and politicized to the detriment of the peoples of the Global South and independent countries.
