The solidarity organization stated in a statement that the decree not only seeks to economically suffocate the Cuban people, but also “aims at destabilizing a social system that has been an example of resistance, dignity, and solidarity for the world.”
The statement noted that the prohibition of financial transactions with Cuban entities, including the Business Administration Group S.A., is “an illegal and immoral measure that directly hits Cuba’s economic and social development,” and that also violates international law and the principles of peoples’ sovereignty and self-determination.
The Cuban government also considered the ban on U.S. tourism to Cuba to be “an act of coercion that deprives both peoples of cultural and human exchanges, while harming Cuban families who depend on this sector.”
The Friendship Movement expressed that while the U.S. government falsely accuses Cuba of human rights violations, it ignores its own history of abuses, including the criminalization of migrants, police violence, and unjust wars.
“Cuba, on the other hand, guarantees universal access to health care, education, and social security, rights that millions of citizens in the United States do not enjoy.”
Furthermore, the inclusion of Cuba on the list of alleged “state sponsors of terrorism” is “a blatant lie and a tool to justify aggression,” the statement stated.
