The Public Health and Social Assistance Commission of the Chamber of Deputies began to fully deal with the initiative after receiving delegations from society who asked to make their positions on the matter known.
Nibia Reisch, president of the commission, explained to La Diaria that from next Tuesday they will begin to vote on the articles in three sessions, prior to the passing of the bill to the plenary.
Before that, the members of the commission will have to present their “substitute articles”.
For Reisch, “there are undoubtedly modifications to be made”, including the opinion of a second physician after a first specialist has verified that the patient, after requesting euthanasia, meets the requirements established by the regulation.
The current bill states that, if the second opinion is contrary to the first, “the opinion of a third physician must be sought”.
Nibia Reisch proposes that, “instead of a third physician, there should be a medical board, made up of three physicians”, and one of the professionals should be from the specialty that treats the patient’s pathology.
