According to Noslen Gonzalez, Deputy Provincial Director of Culture, despite the adverse circumstances regarding the electricity shortage affecting the entire country, the province plans to hold more than four thousand cultural activities.
On July 5, in the evening, the official summer inauguration will take place in Viaducto Plaza, located in the provincial capital, with the Ruedas de Casino dancing festival and a performance by Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco orchestra, he informed.
Gonzalez explained that all along July, festivals such as the Ciudad de los Puentes Clarinet Festival will take place, from the 8th to the 12th, at Jose White Concert Hall, as well as the Duendecillos de los Puentes Children’s Performance Festival, from the 18th to the 20th, and Rumbaking, from the 24th to the 27th.
During the summer season, Matanzas will host activities dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of local poet Carilda Oliver Labra, including the gathering “Al sur de mi garganta” -(after her homunymous poem – South of My Throat), at 81 Tirry (her birth house), the deputy director explained.
The director commented that the popular Vienes Humor Festival will return to Velasco Cinema-Theater in the city of Matanzas, there will be summer workshops at institutions such as at Sala White, the Curator’s Office, the Provincial Center for Visual Arts, and activities in plazas throughout the province’s 13 municipalities.
Providing a varied, entertaining program that engages the entire family is a challenge and a goal for Cuba’s western province during the summer, a period that in the largest of the Antilles covers the months of July and August.
