The chargé d’affaires and first counselor of the permanent mission of the DRC to the UN, Hippolyte Mfulu Kingonzila, conveyed to the Security Council the need to a higher contribution on a humanitarian response plan in order to address issues such as the growing food insecurity.
The 2025 humanitarian response plan, launched jointly on February 27 by the Congolese government and its partners, has been severely underfunded to date, Actualité.CD said.
Although the funding requirement has been revised and reduced from US$ 2.54 billion to US$ 1.25 billion in order to help at least 11 million of the 21.2 million people currently in need, contributions still fall far short of what is required.
According to what the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and head of the Stabilization Mission (Monusco), Bintou Keita, said last June 27, the humanitarian response plan has only 11 percent coverage so far.
