Jordan calls for immediate action to deliver aid to Gaza

Amman, July 2 (Prensa Latina) Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi demanded immediate international action to ensure the entry of aid to Gaza Strip through relevant UN organizations, in accordance with international humanitarian law.

During his meeting in Amman, the Jordanian capital, with the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, Safadi denounced the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza due to continued Israeli aggression and the obstruction of aid entry.

Israel’s denial of the Palestinian people’s right to food and medicine constitutes a war crime and a flagrant violation of international law and shared human values, the head of the Hashemite Kingdom’s diplomacy said.

He added that the international community must address this immediately and effectively.

Safadi said that UNRWA’s role in Gaza is irreplaceable, in accordance with its UN mandate, and reiterated the Kingdom’s continued efforts to support it.

He also stressed on the need of joining forces to immediately halt the Israeli aggression against Gaza, reach a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire agreement, and support the efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to achieve this goal.
