Germany increases use of solar energy

Berlin, Jul 4 (Prensa Latina) The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported that Germany increased the use of solar energy year-on-year.

They said that about 59.5 million megawatt hours of electricity were fed into the grid from photovoltaic systems in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 13.8 percent.

The entity specified that the figure was an all-time high and, in turn, represented 12 percent of the total electricity supplied into the grid.

As of March 2025, Destatis reported that 4.2 million photovoltaic systems were installed on rooftops and homes across the country, an increase of 23.7 percent year-on-year.

With a rated capacity of 98.3 gigawatts, this figure grew by 21.9 percent.

According to Destatis, almost 86 percent of the PV systems imported into Germany in 2024 came from China.

It also detailed that the value of imports was more than three times higher than exports, which fell by more than half to 510 million euros.

The production of solar modules for PV systems in this country also suffered a sharp decline, falling by no less than 56 percent to 1.5 million units in 2024.
