Hamas analyzes ceasefire proposal in Gaza, but wants guarantees

Ramallah, Jul 4 (Prensa Latina) The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) continues its contacts with other forces in Gaza Strip before responding to the new ceasefire proposal, although it wants guarantees regarding the end of the war.

We are holding consultations with the other factions on the draft ceasefire as “part of the commitment to ending the Israeli aggression,” the Islamist militia expressed in a statement.

Sources close to the Movement told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that the response will be positive.

One of the sources told the newspaper that technical preparations are underway, and some details are in the final stages.

The project provides for a 60-day ceasefire, which will include the release of hundreds of Palestinians in exchange for 10 live Israeli hostages and the remains of 18 others.

Additionally, the Israeli Army will withdraw from some areas of Gaza and allow the entry of humanitarian aid, including medicine, fuel, and food, through the UN and NGOs.

The UN and several international NGOs daily denounce the serious humanitarian crisis in that territory due to the war and the blockade imposed by the neighboring nation.
