Uruguay’s care for homeless people due to cold continues

Montevideo, July 4 (Prensa Latina) The extreme cold operation for homeless people continues in Uruguay and is followed by President Yamandu Orsi, who called a meeting with the Ministers of Social Development (Mides), Health, Defense, Interior, and directors of other institutions to review the contingency plan, which has been in place for 11 days.

According to the latest report from the National Emergency System, assistance was provided to 2,695 people last night, both in Mides shelters and in designated evacuation centers.

Police carried out 261 transfers nationwide, while health teams provided 44 medical assistance.

Since the red alert was declared on June 23, medical assistance has been provided to more than 350 people housed in evacuation centers, reported Sinae.

The 457 spaces occupied in evacuation centers in the department of Montevideo represent 82 percent of the 555 available capacities.

Of the 261 evacuee transfers carried out by the Police, eight were through the forced evacuation mechanism (seven in Montevideo and one in Canelones).

Furthermore, within the framework of Law No. 18,787, three people were compulsorily admitted, events that occurred in the departments of Canelones, San Jose, and Tacuarembo.
