Cuba: new regulations on the exercise of the notarial function

Havana, 7 Jul (Latin Press) The Cuban Ministry of Justice (Minjus) today published Law 175 on the notarial profession and its complementary legal provisions.

This rule, published in the Official Gazette No.62, regulates the profession of public office, service and notarial performance as a guarantor of justice and preventive legal security.

According to the First Deputy Minister of Minjus, Rosabel Gamón, the order, passed by the National Assembly of People’s Power on December 19 2024, “tempers the role of the notary to the current context and offers a differentiated disciplinary regime as a public authority”.

In turn, the Director General of Notaries and Public Services, Olga Lidia Pérez, indicated that for the normative creation “the opinions and suggestions of the population were taken into account”, “strengthening the legal culture of natural persons for the proper use of their rights in this field”.

“To make the law known to the population, an intense communication campaign has been prepared that includes work in social networks, print and traditional media, video conferences and specialized programs,” said Yashna Díaz, Vice Minister of Minjus.

The notarial activity is a function that protects family, patrimonial and business relations, avoids conflicts and ensures that people in vulnerable situations are consulted in their processes.

This new law is positioned as a step forward that combines legal certainty, inclusion and technology in order to speed up processes and provide citizens with a quality notarial work.
