Haiti: Gangs continue to defy the State

Port-au-Prince, July 7 (Prensa Latina) The coalition of nearly 10 gangs called Viv Ansanm in Haiti continues to expand in an open confrontation to state power.

Despite announcements of increased police interventions, the use of booby-trapped kamikaze drones, and the presence of officers from the Multinational Security Support Mission, the bandits continue to take over neighborhoods.

After the assault on the town of La Chapelle on Sunday, June 22, the town of Lascahobas is the latest to fall under the control of criminals.

The gang members kidnapped around 50 residents of Lascahobas, whom they filmed and posted on social media.

Throughout the video, they made hostile comments against state authorities and affirmed their determination to conquer new territories.

Heavy gunfire echoes constantly around downtown Port-au-Prince, and bandits dream of invading the commune of Petion-Ville, according to the newspaper Le National.

At the last meeting of the UN Security Council, the United Nations declared that 90 percent of the Haitian capital is under the control of gang members, thus the possible total collapse of the state.
