The President attended the forum on Environment, COP 30 and Global Health where Heads of State, Government and authorities of member countries, partners and guests discussed this important issues.
Boric noted that the effects of the climate crisis affect everyone equally and mentioned how natural disasters, including fires and floods, are increasingly recurring in his country.
He mentioned the actions that Chile is taking to tackle global warming and its consequences, such as the development of renewable energies, electromobility and the protection of the oceans.
The South American nation is scheduled to close its coal-fired power plants by 2035 and has made a commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
The president added that the transition to green economies must consider older energy workers because, he said, sustainable development cannot be at the expense of the poorest.
This was the second intervention of the head of La Moneda Palace at the BRICS Summit, where he attends as a guest of the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
