Curaçao and Cuba strengthen cultural ties

Santiago de Cuba, 9 Jul (Prensa Latina) The cultural ties that unite Curaçao and Cuba are strengthened today, after days of exchange between the two nations, during the 44th edition of the Caribbean Festival in this city.

A few hours from the end of the Festival of Fire in the most Caribbean of the Cuban provinces, similarities between Curaçao and Cuba in traditional dances, culinary arts, music and Plastic emerged, also present in this edition.

One of the artistic exponents from Curacao, the plastic artist who calls himself 7.1 Geovanni Abath, presented his works at the main headquarters of the Casa del Caribe, invited by Maestro Alberto Lescay, to his Cimarrónico exhibition (Fugitive exhibition).

For Abath to exhibit next to Lescay was like returning home, like bringing his art where they had already been, a mystical feeling, “something similar to what I felt when I stepped on Cuban soil for the first time,” he said.

Says the artist who draws his attention that Cubans treat Curacaoans “as if they knew us from all the life, I will carry it in my heart for my country, I’m happy to be here,” he concluded.

When this afternoon, the Caribbean nations parade down Aguilera street in the historic center of Santiago de Cuba, and “burn the devil” on the promenade to exorcise the evil, they will be closing the doors of the festival, but the ties between Cuba and Curaçao will be strengthened. abo/ro/yvg
