Cuban hero supports social policy to increase pensions

Havana, July 16 (Prensa Latina) Representative Gerardo Hernández, national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), welcomed the Cuban government's decision to increase pensions for more than one million people.

Speaking to Prensa Latina, Hernández described the measure, announced the day before at the National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament), as “very positive.”

It will take effect next September and will benefit 1,324,599 Cubans with salaries of up to four thousand pesos per month for age, disability, and the death of a spouse.

This confirms the government’s policy of caring for vulnerable groups, the Hero of the Republic of Cuba asserted.

A significant segment of the population, including retirees, pensioners, and beneficiaries of Cuban Social Assistance in general, suffers from limited resources and financial means to survive each month, due to the nation’s complex economic situation, he stated.

In this context, the announced state support constitutes another example of the Revolution’s social outreach, which distributes financial income to the most vulnerable sectors, the national coordinator of the CDRs stated.

Despite the complexity of the current situation, there are some signs of recovery that allow the government to address these citizens, he argued.
