Cuba and Ethiopia celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations

Addis Ababa, July 18 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia and Cuba celebrate 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations, a half-century in which solidarity, mutual respect, and collaboration have prevailed in various sectors, including education, health, water, and sugar.

The friendship between the two peoples was strengthened in 1977 when Cuban internationalist troops supported Ethiopian troops against external annexation attempts.

One hundred and sixty-three Caribbean combatants died in the conflict, and their faces are featured on a monument in the Ethiopia-Cuba Friendship Park in this capital.

From March 11 to 13, Havana’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, made an official visit to the African country as part of the celebrations for 50 years of diplomatic relations.

During his stay, Rodríguez Parrilla held official talks with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Vice President of the ruling Prosperity Party, Adem Farah, Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (Parliament), Tagesse Chafo, and Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.

Memoranda of understanding were also signed between the two governments for collaboration in technological and sports development.
