During a Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Qusay Al-Dahhak, warned of the “serious and multifaceted challenges” facing his country and stressed the need for serious international engagement to counter Israeli aggression.
In statements broadcast on the national network Ikhbariya TV, Al-Dahhak urged the Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, and the international community to unequivocally condemn Israel’s repeated aggression against Syrian territory.
He also demanded compliance with the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement and the immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from the occupied Syrian territories, including the Golan Heights region, in accordance with international body resolutions 242, 338, and 497.
The diplomat also lamented the recent violent events in the southern province of Sweida and denounced the Israeli occupier’s attempts to exploit these events to justify further hostile actions against Syrian sovereignty.
