Havana shaken with presentation of Literary classics

Havana, August 2 (Prensa Latina) The old section of Havana lived a moving meeting with literature during the traditional Saturday Book Showcase, in which were presented two world classics: "The Charterhouse of Parma" by Stendhal and “Madame Bovary” by Gustave Flaubert.

Organized by the Cuban Book Institute, the titles released by Arte y Literatura publishing house are highly praised by young readers.

“Madame Bovary” that is considered the masterpiece of 19th-century literary realism, in its time, the novel generated such a stir that its author faced trial due to the bold behavior of its protagonist, a character who represented a true break with the literary conventions of its time.

“The Charterhouse of Parma” is one of the literary works that has generated the most opinions throughout history.

Cuba – Italian author Italo Calvino described it as the most beautiful novel in the world, while Andre Gide considered it the best text ever written in French.

The great French writer Honore de Balzac praised it as a work that reflects the perfection and maturity of an author, and Tolstoy was inspired by it to create his famous “War and Peace.”

“The Charterhouse of Parma” is a novel full of love, adventure, and surprising misadventures. It tells the story of the young Italian patrician Fabrizio del Dongo during the final years of Napoleonic rule in Europe.
