Italy to begin airdrops of humanitarian aid to Gaza

Rome, August 2 (Prensa Latina) The Italian Ministry of Defense announced that it will begin airdrops of humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip on August 9 to lessen the dire situation caused by the Israeli aggression, according to a statement.

According to a note published on the ministry’s official website, this mission, called Operation Solidarity Trail 2, will be carried out in coordination with the Jordanian Armed Forces and involves the use of C-130J transport aircraft that will drop special containers with essential supplies.

The Italian Air Force will allocate an advance detachment to carry out preparatory activities and coordinate with the Jordanian counterpart, while the procurement of food and its transportation to the Arab nation will be the responsibility of the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stated, when announcing this initiative, that “we cannot remain indifferent to the suffering of innocent civilians” in Gaza Strip, where nearly 60,000 Palestinians have already died as a result of Israeli bombing and the population is facing a serious humanitarian crisis.

“This new initiative is part of the broader and more concrete commitment of the Ministry of Defense to support the civilian population of Gaza, which has led us to collaborate with the Italian Navy’s Vulcano hospital ship, which has provided medical care to numerous wounded in the Strip,” Crosetto recalled.
