Cuban science focuses biological projects on Europe

Camagüey, Cuba, August 4 (Prensa Latina) The Center for Immunology and Biological Products in this Cuban city is currently promoting international studies on caña santa, in collaboration with Italian laboratories to validate its therapeutic potential.

Researchers sent samples to Italy for advanced physical and chemical analysis of the plant with antihypertensive properties.

“We seek to quantify its metabolites and confirm its efficacy,” the researchers explained.

The project strengthens global scientific cooperation from Cuba.

In addition to its economic impact, the center provides specialized services to the local population.

The institution is consolidating its position as a regional benchmark in medical research, combining innovative science with social commitment.

“We have already sent samples to Italy for physical and chemical analysis and metabolite studies that will allow us to accurately determine their composition and therapeutic efficacy,” Gerardo Brunet, director of the Center, explained.

An example of this is the agreement between the University of Medical Sciences and Aboca (a laboratory for natural supplements for body care), a high-tech Italian company.

“We know its components, but we need to quantify its metabolites to scientifically validate its properties and add medicinal value to this native plant.”

Beyond its contribution to national scientific development and its impact on the Cuban economy, the center maintains a strong social commitment by providing specialized services to the population, reaffirming its role as an emblematic scientific institution in the Caribbean.

This international project demonstrates Cuba’s scientific capacity to establish strategic alliances that promote the research and development of natural products with innovative medical applications.
