The hearing yesterday focused on examining various pieces of evidence, including an interview the former head of State allegedly gave on Radio France Internationale. Therefore, the next court appearance will focus on oral arguments.
The trial against Kabila, accused of treason, participation in an insurrectionary movement, conspiracy, and advocacy of terrorism, is taking place in the defendant’s absence.
Regarding this matter, lawyer Richard Bondo told Actualite.CD that the Democratic Republic of the Congo intends to present several other pieces of evidence for consideration by the High Court, which will better substantiate its arguments to support the former head of State’s responsibility.
The trial against Kabila began on July 25; the prosecution was able to move forward after the impeachment proceedings were lifted, despite his supporters denouncing the entire plot as political persecution aimed at weakening his influence.
The former president is currently in Congolese territory, but in the eastern part of the country controlled by the Congo River Alliance-March 23 Movement (AFC/M23).
