In this regard, spokesperson Mao Ning reiterated that negotiation is the only viable way out of the conflict.
During the daily press conference, she highlighted the current relevance of the Chinese approach known as the “four principles,” proposed by President Xi Jinping.
These principles state that: the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected, the purposes and principles of the UN Charter must be fulfilled, the legitimate security concerns of all parties must be taken into account, and all efforts that promote the peaceful resolution of crises must be supported.
Mao noted that this framework takes on special significance in the current international context.
She also recalled that Beijing published an official document with its position on the crisis, sent by its special representative in multiple rounds of shuttle diplomacy.
Furthermore, China promoted the creation of the “Friends of Peace on Ukraine” group at the United Nations, with the aim of fostering objective and balanced dialogue.
The objective, Mao stated, is to promote mediation and rapprochement between the parties involved.
