The West could agree on guarantees for Ukraine in a week

Helsinki, Aug 19 (Prensa Latina) Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that Western powers could agree on security guarantees for Ukraine within a week, after meeting with US President Donald Trump.

The statement, reported by the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, came after a meeting at the White House that included Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and European heads of State.

Stubb told Finnish journalists that the details of the agreement will be defined in approximately seven days, although he did not specify its specific scope.

The summit brought together the presidents of France, Emmanuel Macron, and Germany, Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, among others.

Trump emphasized that this is the first time the White House has hosted so many European leaders simultaneously, in what analysts interpret as a message of Western unity against Russia.

Analysts warn that Stubb’s announced timeline seems optimistic, given the persistence of disagreements over the level of direct involvement of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Kiev insists that the guarantees must be binding and lasting, while Moscow calls them a provocation that undermines peace negotiations.
