Faced with the shortage of teachers and structural reorganizations, the country’s Ministry of Education is taking up the challenge in the larger region of the country whose infrastructure has been affected by the current economic situation, however, the government is again planning a school term which responds to the interests of young people.
Following a tour of the various educational establishments and information provided to the press by the Directorate for Education, current teaching coverage in the territory is projected at 75.5 per cent, representing 2,468 educational strength needs.
“A process is being carried out to ratify all the contracts that were accompanying us and so that other colleagues are also willing to teach in the classrooms” detailed the director general of Education in the province, Loreley Suárez Capdevila.
The analyses prior to the beginning of the course identified the educational levels with the greatest difficulties in coverage, among them Technical and Vocational Education (ETP): 51 per cent coverage, Pre-university: 62.9 and High School: 70 per cent.
The most deficient subjects are Mathematics, Physics, English and Political Culture, areas in which specialized recruitment strategies and intensive preparation will be implemented.
As part of the preparations, a readjustment has been implemented which reduces the number of educational institutions in the province by 19.
This measure responds to a reallocation of enrollment in several municipalities where students have been redistributted between nearby centres to make better use of existing infrastructure and capacities .
The new school year in Cuba is scheduled to start on September 1 throughout the country, as recently confirmed by the Minister of Education, Naima Ariatne Trujillo Barreto .
