France and Cambodia seek to boost bilateral cooperation

Phnom Penh, Aug 22 (Prensa Latina) The newly accredited French ambassador to Cambodia, Olivier Richard, reaffirmed today his commitment to strengthen the historic relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries as he presented his credentials to King Norodom Sihamoni.

During the ceremony at the Royal Palace, Richard expressed his satisfaction at launching the diplomatic mission and reiterated the objective of moving towards a strategic partnership by 2026, in line with the roadmap adopted by both nations.

France and Cambodia plan to strengthen political, economic and cultural cooperation, on the eve of the first visit of a French president to the country in over 30 years, which coincides with the 20th Francophonie Summit in Siem Reap.

Bilateral trade exchange reached US$1.718 billion in 2024, an increase of 8.3 percent over the previous year.

In addition, both governments are working to balance the French deficit and encourage new investments.

President Emmanuel Macron recently highlighted Prime Minister Hun Manet’s leadership and Cambodia’s role as host of the UN Ocean Summit, and reiterated Paris’ support for its international projection.
