Strong storm causes power failure in the Cuban province

Santa Clara, Cuba, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) An intense electric arc of incandescent light, caused by the contact between high voltage cables during a storm, generated alarm today among the population of the Cuban province of Villa Clara, after being confused with an explosion.

The Provincial Electric Company clarified to the Cuban News Agency that the phenomenon was not an explosion, but a failure on the 33 kilovolt (kV) line of the Santa Clara Industrial substation, affected by the strong winds that hit the administrative municipality and areas of Placetas and Camajuaní, causing multiple failures in the electrical system.

According to the head of Cargo Dispatch of the company, Yadier Ruiz, the storm caused the collapse of several electrical circuits and also there are interruptions in the fluid by fallen trees and broken lines.

Ruiz pointed out that the brigades are working hard to repair faults and restore supply in the shortest possible time.
