Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei highlighted the presence of a large number of leaders and senior representatives from the Global South at the commemorative military parade on September 3.
Tiananmen Square will host that day thousands of soldiers and officers to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the defeat of fascism.
Hong noted that the victory of the Chinese Army inspired the colonized and semi-colonized countries of the world and strengthened the confidence and courage of oppressed peoples to fight for their independence and national liberation.
The diplomat said that this event had a profound influence on the struggles for sovereignty in several regions.
He specified that eight decades later, the era in which a few countries dominated the destiny of others, controlled international affairs, and monopolized the benefits of development has ended.
The Chinese representative highlighted the collective rise of the Global South, noting that in the last 40 years, the share of these countries’ Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the world total increased from 24 percent to more than 40 percent.
