Citizen Revolution Assemblywoman Viviana Veloz stated on her social media account X that the proposal constitutes a direct blow to the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute Bank.
It was also learned that Ecuador is awaiting a visit from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, where there are voices rejecting Washington’s interventionism.
According to official information, the trip’s agenda includes promoting swift and decisive measures to dismantle cartels, curb fentanyl trafficking, halt illegal immigration, reduce the trade deficit, and promote economic prosperity.
Likewise, Rubio’s presence in this South American nation and his meeting with President Daniel Noboa would seek to reinforce the strategic priorities of the Donald Trump administration in the region.
“Dialogue and cooperation yes, interventionism and tutelage no! Human rights for migrants! Ecuador, sovereign, free, and dignified. Never a colony!” commented former Ecuadorian Vice Foreign Minister Fernando Yepez Lasso on his X account regarding the announcement of the US official’s arrival.
Yepez Lasso also spoke out against a possible agreement between Ecuador and the United States for the Andean country to receive migrants deported from other nations, as international media reported. He considered it “…an absurdity, as receiving migrants implies that the country’s foreign policy is devoid of sovereignty.”
