He emphasized that both countries successfully resolved the Macau issue through friendly consultations, setting an example of mutual respect and beneficial cooperation between nations with different social systems.
The president underscored that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Prime Minister Montenegro, in turn, praised the positive development of ties with China.
The visitor affirmed that the solution reached regarding Macau shows the Portuguese government’s decision and reiterated his government’s firm commitment to the one-China principle.
Montenegro expressed his country’s interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas such as energy, finance, health, and water resources, with an irreplaceable partner in Europe, thus Portugal is willing to contribute actively to the sound and stable development of relations between China and the European region.
