The Ministry of Education and Higher Education stated that thousands of students in the coastal enclave were killed and hundreds of facilities in the sector were destroyed by bombing.
The ministry also criticized the Israeli Armed Forces (IDF) incursions into the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
In the face of these crimes, we call on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take urgent measures to “stop this genocide against Palestinian education and to ensure the protection of schools, students, and teachers,” it stated.
Last week, the Ministry reported that the IDF has killed 18,651 students and injured 29,114 in the occupied territories since the outbreak of the current cycle of violence in October 2023.
It specified in its latest report on the issue that 18,508 students lost their lives in the Gaza Strip and another 28,142 were injured. Meanwhile, in the West Bank, the number rose to 142 and 972, respectively.
It detailed that in both territories, at least 972 teachers and staff members died from Israeli attacks, while another 4,538 were injured and 199 were arrested. Hundreds of public and private schools, including universities, were destroyed or damaged in Gaza.
