Following the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to try to calm the crisis, the country fell into chaos with assaults on the homes of officials such as Freign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, who, along with her husband Former Minister Bahadur Deuba, was violently attacked by a mob.

Among the numerous incidents reported, it was announced that the wife of former Prime Minister of Nepal Jhalanath Khanal died from burns after her house was set on fire in Kathmandu.

Facing the absence of action by the security forces, the Parliament building was also reduced to ashes, as the official residence of Oli and other political figures, as well as the headquarters of government ministries and offices.

A few hours earlier, KP Sharma Oli had announced his resignation with immediate effect in order to move towards a political solution of the problems. Following the news, senior commanders of the country’s security forces and army called on the parties involved to exercise restraint and find a solution through political talks.

“After accepting the resignation of the Honourable Prime Minister, we sincerely urge all citizens to act with restraint to avoid further loss of life and property in this critical situation,” they said in a statement.

On the other hand, the mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balen Sah, called on the demonstrators to cease violence and vandalism and to protect public property; but without effect.
