Cuban ambassador Oscar Leon was among those who bid farewell to the president of the Angolan legislature before departing on a trip that, according to First Secretary of Parliament Manuel Lopes Dembo, told the press, will contribute to strengthening the historic relations of friendship between the two countries.
Cerqueira will be on the island until September 17, and among the many activities planned are a visit to the headquarters of the National Assembly of People’s Power, in Havana’s Capitol, and talks with her Cuban counterpart, Esteban Lazo.
Lopes Dembo emphasized that both parties will exchange ideas on working methods and ways to deepen interparliamentary ties.
He added that the head of the Angolan Legislature will also visit places of political, cultural, and technological interest, as well as meet with members of the Angolan community residing on the island.
The Secretary of the Assembly highlighted the ties of friendship between the two countries and peoples, dating back to the struggle for Angola’s liberation, the defense of sovereignty, and the construction of the country, for which Cuba’s contribution in providing services and training professionals has been valuable.
