“For the first time and on the instructions of the President of Mexico (Claudia Sheinbaum), this test is going to be carried out at the national level to send a message to all cell phones” in the country, says the national coordinator of Civil Protection, Laura Velazquez.
As part of the exercise in the face of disasters, at 12:00 local time on the 19th, a message will be received on the screen and a strong sound even when the telephone is silent, blocked or in use, detailed by the head of the Digital Transformation Agency, José Merino.
Velazquez highlighted that, in this way, Mexico will become the fourth country on the American continent with this cellular alert system, after the United States, Canada and Chile.
Regarding the simulation, it is clear that the most important event scheduled this year with the purpose of strengthening the culture of civil protection, will be a hypothesis in the great majority of the states of an earthquake of magnitude 8.1 with an epicenter in Lazaro Cardenas, Michoacan.
Other federative entities, such as Campeche, Yucatán, Sonora, Quintana Roo and Baja California Sur will carry out exercise on the basis of a huracán, while in Durango, Guanajuato, Tamaulipas it will be an urban fire, and in Baja California, a tsunami.
Velazquez highlights the seismic alert system that operates in this capital, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Puebla, Michoacan, Morelos, Colima, Chiapas and the State of Mexico, and signals that the signal will be activated through 14 thousand 491 speakers, cell phones, 100 radio stations and 10 televisions commercials.
