Goyal’s visit underscores the importance India places on its trade and investment ties with Qatar, one of the most important trading partners in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), with bilateral trade estimated at more than US$14 billion in 2024-2025, according to New Delhi.
The two sides are expected to hold extensive discussions to analyze bilateral trade performance, address existing trade barriers and non-tariff issues, and explore avenues to improve trade and investment flows.
The talks are likely to include discussions on a proposed free trade agreement between India and Qatar, as well as the path forward for finalizing the Terms of Reference for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership (CEPA), which will further strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries, the Indian Commerce Ministry said.
Cooperation in other key sectors, such as finance, agriculture, environment, tourism, culture, and health, will also be an integral part of the talks, aimed at deepening the multifaceted partnership between India and Qatar.
The delegation will also actively engage with Qatari companies and entities, such as the Qatar Chamber of Commerce, the Qatar Financial Centre, Invest Qatar, and the Qatar Free Zones Authority.
In parallel with the visit, Goyal will meet with other dignitaries and business leaders from the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Business Association, and will hold talks with representatives from the Doha Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC), and Qatar, as well as senior industry and community officials from India.
