Sumud Flotilla activists detained by Israel return to Italy

Rome, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) The last 15 Italian activists still detained in Israel arrived in Italy after participating in the Sumud Flotilla, which transported humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza, victims of the Tel Aviv aggression.

A report published by the newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano points out that the announcement was made the day before by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who said in a message on social media that, after being released, the Italians participating in the humanitarian initiative will depart this Monday, with a stopover in Greece.

MEP Benedetta Scuderi, of the Green Europe party, who was part of the flotilla and returned on Friday with three other Italian parliamentarians, denounced in an interview published by the newspaper La Repubblica the serious abuses they suffered after the Israeli boarding of the boats and their transfer to the port of Ashdod.

“They grabbed my arms and pulled me. Once inside, they searched us again, rummaged through our suitcases, threw away our personal belongings, including my cell phone, and took my medications, which they never returned.”

Scuderi criticized Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s stance for “not condemning the arrest of the flotilla crew” and stated that “the responsibility of those who commit the crimes should be examined, not the victims.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “kidnapped us in international waters, and Meloni, as always, has not condemned him, nor does he condemn any of his crimes,” the MEP stated.

On Saturday night, another 26 activists returned to this country. They also recounted the mistreatment they received from the Zionist forces who held them in a prison in the Negev Desert, southern Israel, where “they treated us like terrorists,” according to Cesare Tofani, a member of that group.
