Yellow alert in effect in El Salvador due to adverse weather

San Salvador, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) El Salvador maintains the yellow alert for increased rainfall, while authorities monitor five systems in the Pacific and Atlantic.

Although only one of these climatic setbacks may influence the country, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) forecasts rainfall throughout the Salvadoran territory for this Monday.

Weather experts are monitoring three low pressure systems, as well as two tropical storms in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, according to reports.

The warning system, depending on severity, goes up from green, yellow, orange to red when there is a threat of disaster.

The rains are being driven by a low pressure system located off the southern coast of Mexico, which has a 60 percent chance of cyclone formation over the next 7 days, as it moves west-northwest toward the coast of Mexico and contributes moisture to the region.

MARN forecasts the formation of rains and storms due to the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and a low pressure near Central America, which brings moisture to El Salvador.

These meteorological conditions favor episodes of moderate to heavy rains, soil saturation and increase the risk of landslides in areas with steep slopes.
