2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to new molecular architecture

Stockholm, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry to three scientists for the development of metal-organic frameworks.

The prize went to Japanese Susumu Kitagawa, British Richard Robson, and Jordanian Omar Yaghi, who found “ways to create completely new materials with large cavities inside, so that guest molecules can enter and also exit the same material again,” Heiner Linke, chairman of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry, highlighted at a press conference.

Linke emphasized that “metal-organic frameworks have enormous potential, providing unprecedented opportunities to create tailor-made materials with new functions.”

These materials were described as capable of capturing carbon dioxide, storing hydrogen, and removing pollutants.

His research took place between 1989 and 2003, and since then, chemists around the world have used his findings to further advance and innovate in this scientific field, according to reports.
