In a communiqué, the indigenous movement maintained that the entrance of the official convoy to a “zone of resistance” in the locality of El Tambo, in the southern Andean province of Cañar, was not an accident, but a deliberate action that it qualified as a “provocation by the National Government”.
According to the organization, the episode repeats “the script of the supposed humanitarian convoy” used in other contexts to justify repression.
Likewise, the Confederation warned about “presumed false flag acts” with which, it said, they seek to criminalize the indigenous and popular movement and thus divert attention from the social, economic and political crisis facing the country.
The organization also questioned the security protocols of the president, pointing out that “the State should guarantee the protection of the president without exposing the civilian population or using official tours as a political provocation”.
These decisions, stated Conaie, “reflect the government’s warmonger stance, which responds with military force instead of seeking solutions through talks”.
