Cuba attends Italian International Audiovisual Market

Rome, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) A representative from the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC for its Spanish acronym) is taking part in the Italian International Audiovisual Market (MIA), underway in Rome from October 6 to 10.

Alexis Triana, ICAIC president and head of his country’s delegation, told Prensa Latina that, within the framework of this event, a tribute was paid to renowned Cuban filmmaker and revolutionary leader Alfredo Guevara, founder of the institute, on the centenary of his birth.

MIA is a project conceived, developed, and produced by a consortium comprised of the National Association of Cinematographic, Audiovisual, and Multimedia Industries and the Association of Television Producers of this European nation.

This year’s MIA also commemorated the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Cuban Film Library, as well as the ICAIC Animation Studios, Triana emphasized.

Among other activities, Cuban film directors and producers held a meeting at the Cuban embassy in Rome with Roberto Stabile, head of internationalization for the Cinecitta project, an initiative of the General Directorate of Cinema and Audiovisual (DGCA) of the Italian Ministry of Culture.

At the meeting, organized by the head of that diplomatic mission, Mirta Granda, Italy confirmed its presence at the first edition of the Latin American Film Market (MECLA) “Isla Abierta,” which will take place in Havana from December 7 to 11, 2025, as part of the 46th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema.

As part of their program of activities, representatives from Cubacine ICAIC also visited the historic headquarters of the Audiovisual Archive of the Workers’ and Democratic Movement (Aamod), where they were received by Vincenzo Maria Vita, president of that foundation, with whom the signing of an exchange agreement was agreed upon, the spokesperson added.
